About Xia Yuan Festival

Xia Yuan Jie (Lower Yuan Festival) falls on the 15th day of the 10th lunar month. It is one of the Three Yuan Festivals in Taoism, associated with the Water Official who absolves sins and misfortunes.

  • Making offerings at Taoist temples
  • Burning incense and joss paper
  • Performing charitable deeds

Cultural Significance

Xia Yuan Jie represents the Taoist belief in spiritual cleansing and renewal. The Water Official is believed to have the power to relieve suffering and wash away misfortunes.
